The supervised experience, and who is allowed to sign it off

A state requires a quantity of work experience, verified by a licensee. How much, what kind of work counts, and who may verify it are set by the state, and under the newer pathways experience is precisely what substitutes for some of the education.

What it is for

In a state that adopted an experience-based pathway, experience did not get easier -- it got load-bearing, because it now carries weight the extra college credit used to carry. Experience is also the requirement that cannot be compressed at the end: a shortfall found in the final month is months of work, not an afternoon of paperwork. And it fails on technicalities that have nothing to do with the work, most often a verifier who was not eligible to verify.

How to think about it

Confirm at the start that the person who will sign your experience is someone your board accepts, and that the work you are doing is work it counts. Keep your own record as you go rather than reconstructing it later from memory and payroll dates. Would my board agree with my own total, and would it accept my verifier? Boards set these rules and change them, so any figure you plan around has to come from your own board's page rather than from here or from somebody who qualified in a different year.
