Terms of use
Last updated October 2026
Hone is provided as-is and free of charge; if that ever changes, you will be told before anything is charged. Use it for learning. Do not attempt to access other people's profiles, overload the service, or use the coach for anything other than understanding your own code.
Code you write in the editor is yours. We keep versions so you can see your own path to a solution.
You need to be at least 16 to use Hone, or 13 with a parent's permission. Accounts require age 13 or over: nobody under 13 may make one. The page for children at /kids needs no account.
Where Hone is an app on Google Play or the App Store, the app is this same service, under these same terms. You can delete your account at any time: open Account and choose Delete my account, or use the page at /account/delete.
Hone Week is a planner on the same account, and your tasks are yours. We keep them so they follow you across your devices. Reminders are scheduled by your phone, and your phone's settings, a low battery or a Focus mode can stop one from showing. Do not rely on Hone Week as your only reminder for anything where a miss could hurt someone or cost money.
The coach runs on a daily allowance: 40 questions per person per day, and a shared ceiling across all of Hone. When either is reached, hints pause until the next day. Your practice, your tests and your progress never stop.
We may change or stop the service at any time. We are not liable for lost progress, though we work hard to keep it.
Shared lists
A list is private to your device unless you choose to share it. When you share a list, its tasks sync to the people you invite so everyone can see it and check things off, and we store those shared tasks to deliver them to the members. Private lists are never shared. Any member can leave a shared list, and the owner can stop sharing it for everyone, which removes it and its tasks for all members. We keep shared-list content only to run the feature and delete it when the list is unshared or you delete your account. The name a member picks when they join is what the others see. Anyone you give an invite code to can join the list within the seven days it is valid, so share it only with people you want on the list. When you delete your account, the lists you own are unshared for everyone and your membership of any other list is removed.
The career paths, and what they are not
The career paths on honejobs are practice material. Every one of them was written for Hone and none has yet been checked by somebody who does that job for a living. Each path names the person whose check it is waiting for, on its own card and again on every problem you are given.
Nothing on a career path is professional advice, and none of it is a substitute for the rule that governs the real work: the code book and the inspector for electrical, the accounting standard and the tax rules where you file, a signing engineer, your employer's protocol, your own licence, the law of a particular place on a particular date, or a state certification board. Where a figure matters, the problem hands it to you rather than asking you to remember ours, and the caution on that problem says where the real one comes from.
Do not rely on anything here to do work that could hurt somebody, cost somebody money, or decide anything about a real person. Check it against the source that governs your job first. If you find something wrong, tell us at hello@honecoding.com and we will fix it.
Hone is not an accredited body, does not proctor exams and does not check government identification. A certificate or a proof page attests to counted practice done on one account here, and says exactly that and nothing more.
