One profile, and everything attaches to it

The national body that administers the examinations keeps a profile for each candidate. Registering for the examinations, and later applying to transfer a licence to another state, both run through it, and it carries an identifier that boards and the examination body use to recognise you.

What it is for

It is the container. A candidate who has not created it has nowhere for a registration, a score or a transfer application to land, and the commonest silent delay in this process is somebody waiting for a step that cannot begin. It matters again years later: a licence transfer starts from the same profile, so the account created as a student is the one that carries a career.

How to think about it

Create it early, keep the identifier somewhere you will still have it in ten years, and make sure the name on it matches the name on your degree and your licence, because a mismatch is resolved by people rather than by software. Is the name on my profile the name on my other documents? Boards set these rules and change them, so any figure you plan around has to come from your own board's page rather than from here or from somebody who qualified in a different year.
